Shade™ contains 4 natural ingredients (sheabutter, coconut oil, beeswax and zinc oxide – a mineral barrier to sun rays). Shade™ is free from the many nasty ingredients (found in over 3500 sunscreens) that protect the skin with chemicals such as oxybenzone and octinoxate.

Shelf Life: once opened, use Shade™ within 12 months, otherwise it has a shelf life of three years.
Your cream may turn to a mottled looking surface if you don’t use it up quickly. This is a natural occurrence when zinc oxide crystals attract one-another because of their polarity, and hang out together in a ‘clumping’ effect. If this occurs, simply rub the cream into your skin really well when you apply it.

A study in 2015 estimated that 14,000 tons of sunscreen are deposited in the world’s oceans each year, putting corals at high risk of catching an infection, potentially playing an important role in coral bleaching in areas visited by tourists. When corals absorb chemicals contained in sunscreens, their reaction is similar to being surrounded by warm water temperatures. The presence of these chemicals in sea water allows viruses to thrive. What’s more, some chemicals are gender-bending, meaning they mimic the effect of oestrogen and can have a dramatic effect on aquatic life, for example turning fish into hermaphrodites.
Shade™ was conceived to take us back to a time when life was simple, and our exposure to dangerous chemicals through personal care and household products was limited. In June 2014, frustrated with the lack of simple, all-natural sun creams on the market, Tania Wedin came up with a really basic but effective cream for her daughter.
